First of all, if you're new here, I want to say welcome. I'd love to hear from you about what brought you to my newsletter! All you have to do is shoot me an email to say hello.

If you're a continuing subscriber, thanks for bearing with me as I come out of winter hibernation. It's already 20 days in, and you're receiving this newsletter at the end of January, it's because you're getting the results of 20 days of my personal creative retreat.

That might sound like all I have done now is rest, but no, it's the opposite. I am feeling a season of creative revival, and allowing myself to go at my own pace. I'm worrying less about what genre of creative practice I belong to, and rather, I am allowing my curiosity to go where it wants to go.

Read on to learn from my recent new year's adventures!

  • Bullet journaling for better morning routines in 2026: When I doom-scroll with my morning coffee, it kills my productivity for the rest of the day. While I use Sunsama to track my time and break down larger projects, a pen-and-paper routine keeps my first hour screen-free. I love warming up my brain with a few doodles in the margins. Then I'm ready to imagine my ideal day and tackle what needs to get done. Dive into this article on how to make an analog bullet journaling practice into a manageable morning routine.
  • The making of mochi. Mochi is a sweet, sticky rice cake with a chewy texture. Mochi represents unity, wholeness and good fortune and it's my favorite New Year's dessert. If winter has you feeling sluggish, try making this winter treat for a bit of warmth. It'll warm your cheeks and your heart. Check out my recipe: Black Sesame Mochi Waffles.
  • Sketch with the Rising Winter Tide: Can you sketch in winter weather? I tested my personal limits in outdoor winter sketching on January 3rd. I led a group of nature journalers locally to observe the high tide. Short answer: yes, you can sketch outdoors in winter, and check out a few tricks/tips for making your time outside more comfortable. For now, check out my post about this on instagram.

Thank you for subscribing! I appreciate you all very much, and thanks for being on this journey with me.
